MARRIAGE
Whenever you
take two unique individuals and put them together in a marriage you will have
turbulent times. Sometimes we learn
how to ride the waves and other times the waves swell above our heads,
threatening to drown us. Below is a
list of marriage observations from a biblical perspective. Though this list may not solve your problems, it will
hopefully give you some things to think about and point you in the right
direction.
- For a marriage to work, BOTH must want it to work.
- The key qualities for a marriage to work are humility
and teachability.
-
Marriage is not a 50-50 proposal.
It is the giving 100% with nothing expected in return.
-
Love is the man’s responsibility first.
God expects the man to love his wife as God loves us.
(tough …I know)
-
Vulnerability is a given – ground can only be
covered by confession and forgiveness in generous portions.
-
There is no “yours” and “mine” in marriage
especially with money. (underwear
would definitely be an exception!)
-
This may sound oversimplified spiritually, but as you
seek to please the Lord with your life, your spouse will be pleased with who
you are and who they are to you. (this
may not necessarily be true if one spouse is an unbeliever)
-
Don’t ever count out the power of prayer.
It moves God and makes our own heart sensitive.
